Whiskey is a humane case from January 2017. He was hit with a shovel in the head as a yearling, and was living in pain and terrible conditions for ten years. Yet, he, somehow, adapted to this pain and found the strength and will to survive.
Every veterinarian that we called recommended euthanizing and there was no equine dentist that would even consider treating him.
Then, Ohio State University agreed to see him. OSU told us that they had never seen a case like his; they even went so far as to say he shouldn't even be alive after all that he went through. Of course, they were reluctant to perform surgery. There were no case studies to go on, and they gave him less than a 10% chance of survival.
But, they took on the case. It took a team of eleven to perform the surgery and it was successful!
He must now have procedures every 4-6 months for the next four years. And, he has developed kidney issues from having to be sedated for so long. But, we know that he is a fighter and has more spirit and life than any animal we have ever seen!
He is our farm and rescue namesake and touches everyone's life when they meet him. His story has been on the news, and he has followers around the world. He is also currently a case study for Ohio State, and we couldn't be prouder of him!
